2007 Wicker Park Fest

Record crowds of 25,000 attended the 2007 Wicker Park Fest, held July 28th and the 29th on Damen Avenue. With festival perfect weather both days, music lovers and people watchers strolled along Damen taking in all that the Wicker Park Fest is known for: music, great food and eclectic crafts and merchandise.

With a total of 28 bands performing over the two days, the festival’s reputation for innovative and cutting edge music was well established. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Subterranean, Smoke Daddy, Silver Wrapper and House Call Entertainment, both the north and south stages boasted notable bands.

Highlights of the festival included The Thermals, and Prefuse 73 which kept people on their dancing and rocking out. The Man Man and Future Rock were also mega hits at the festival along with Mofro and Benevento/Russo Duo. The Wicker Park Fest 2007 lived up to it’s reputation this year.

Those with an appetite were able to indulge in a variety of festival fare provided by local Wicker Park / Bucktown restaurants including Smoke Daddy, Parlor, Salud, Adobo Grill, Cevapcici and Suzie’s Fun Foods. Ice cold Berghoff beer and some of the best sangria ever poured (by Subterranean) kept thirsts at bay while people soaked up the sun.

Proceeds from the 2007 Wicker Park Summfest benefited the Wicker Park & Bucktown Chamber of Commerce. These proceeds allow the Chamber to carry out its mission as the voice and advocate for the Wicker Park and Bucktown communities.

A very special thanks goes to the 1st Ward and Alderman Manny Flores for his support of the festival. Also, a special note of appreciation goes to Police Commander Salvadore Avila and the officers of the 14th District for their coverage of the festival. Hats off to the dedicated volunteers of the Wicker Park Garden Club for their tireless supervision of Wicker Park during the festival as well as to Park Manager Kelly Torres and the Chicago Park District.
