Showcase the Neighborhood, July 29 – 30
CHICAGO (May X, 2017) – The festival that Chicago magazine and Chicago Tribune have each called “best” of the season returns for its 14th year July 29th and 30th (on Milwaukee Ave from North Ave to Paulina St). Always one of the most anticipated summer events, Wicker Park Fest attracts visitors from across the region with its stellar music line-up and homage to the beloved Wicker Park neighborhood. Chicago’s longest (in terms of length) two-day neighborhood festival reflects Wicker Park’s rich musical heritage, vibrant nightlife and hot culinary scene. Today, the bookers at Subterranean announced the headliners and wave 1 artists leading the charge of 40 bands at Wicker Park Fest 2017.
Building on Wicker Park’s unique character, this year’s colossal street party presents three stages of continuous live music, a dedicated children’s fun area, celebrated local food vendors, an arts section with jaw-dropping installation and performance acts, a specialty beer tent hosted by sponsor Lagunitas Brewing Company, and dozens of the most popular local boutiques and restaurants. Presented by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, Wicker Park Fest 2017 is expected to draw over 70,000 people over the two-day span. A $10 gate donation benefits the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, a local non-profit.
Above all, Wicker Park Fest showcases cutting edge live music. Since the fest’s inception, Subterranean, the iconic live music venue located in the heart of Wicker Park, has been the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber’s partner in curating the festival. Wave 1 bands announced today are as follows:

Arts at Wicker Park Fest:
Arts at Wicker Park Fest includes some of the year’s most tantalizing installation and performance art curated by renowned Wicker Park artists and arts organizations. The dedicated section within Wicker Park Fest features unique and inspired works in the middle of the action on Milwaukee Avenue throughout the weekend. Last year, an installation entitled “Universe” provided a contemporary mythological model of the Cosmos, composed of a life-size, sculpted human figure covered with mirrors and tethered to the top of a 20-foot radio tower. Likewise, Collaboraction, Wicker Park’s own nationally-renowned performance art company, presented the Collaboraction “Art Oasis” – an area of art, community and fun – with interactive art activities such as the Dome of Dance Tournament, an Art Bar, and Break Dancing Workshops. Details on this year’s stimulating art attractions will be announced in subsequent release.
Arts at Wicker Park Fest is presented by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber and is generously underwritten by the WPB Special Service Area #33.
Wicker Park Fest is also home to one of the summer’s top fests within a fest – for little ones. Kids Fest at Wicker Park Fest offers a wide variety of children’s programming from noon to 6 pm both days (no additional entrance fee required). Previous year’s activities have included: cooking demos, crafts tables, nail and face painting, hair streaking, mad science, Henna tattoos, balloon animals, bounce houses, toddler play areas, remote control car racing, a live entertainment kiddo stage and much more. Kids Fest at Wicker Park Fest benefits Jonathan Burr Elementary (specifically to improve the technology and programming) and is sponsored by the WPB SSA# 33...
