Call for Nominations for the Wicker Park and Bucktown Chamber of Commerce

The Wicker Park and Bucktown Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominees for the positions of President, Treasurer, as well as five Director positions. All board positions for both Officers and Directors are two year terms.

Please note that the current incumbents have indicated a willingness to serve a second term and will be submitted to the Chamber Board for approval as nominees for the 2006 slate. However, there is still a need for additional nominees. Serving on the Board of Directors is a great way to make a special contribution to your community by supporting the area’s growth and prosperity while also serving as a voice for your fellow business owners and neighborhood residents.

Please note that under the current Chamber by-laws, only existing board members are eligible to be slated as Officers. As for Director, the by-laws give favor to candidates currently serving as members of a standing committee of the Chamber of Commerce.

Please submit your nominees to Ron Barrett at ronbarrett@mcihispeed.net by Friday, September 1st.

The incumbents who wish to serve a second term are as follows:

President: Ann Nolan, State Farm

Director: Kim Bosse, Salud Tequila Lounge; Cans and Four

Director: Scott Starbuck, Niche and City Soles

Director: Stephanie Sack, vive la femme

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact Executive Director, Paula Barrington at 773-384-2672.

Milwaukee Avenue Resurfacing Project

The resurfacing of Milwaukee Avenue will begin on or around Monday, August 28th and should be completed in 40 days. This project will begin at the Kennedy Expressway ramp and proceed north on Milwaukee ending at North Avenue.

The work will include the following:
-Remove approximately 2 ½ “ of asphalt surface and pave approximately 1” of asphalt; adjust and replace manhole covers, drain frames and lids as needed and finish with an additional 1 ½ “ of asphalt.
-Severely deteriorated curb, gutter and sidewalks along North Milwaukee will also be removed and replaced (amount will be limited to areas presenting significant hazard to public or significant drainage problems).
Businesses and residents should anticipate lane closures and parking restrictions as work proceeds north during the 40 day period. The Chamber will remain in communication with the Department of Transportation and will update businesses through the web-site on the progress of these improvements to Milwaukee Avenue.
Questions can be directed to the Wicker Park and Bucktown Chamber of Commerce office at 773-384-2672.
