Agitator Co-operative Gallery

Owensby & Walsh: contemplative work of childhood trauma and transcendent experiences
Owensby's work explores the complexities of childhood trauma, identity, and memory through constructed photographs, metaphor, and collaboration. Walsh is always looking and always connecting with beauty and humor and tenderness and humanity that’s overlooked by most of us. Some of the most powerful photos from this series are of children and homeless people.

ARC Gallery

Monica J. Brown: Mythical Memory/Abstract Lens + Granite Palombo (Amit): The Movement for the Liberation of the Narrative + Debby Spertus + Tehilla Newman
Memory is an abstraction. It holds our entire history, but how much of that is our “real” story? And what stories do we tell ourselves about this story? Also explore strong textual components and installations and performances using projected animations and projections of real-time interactive animation reflecting the dancers’ movements with narratives concerning social issues. The show also includes artwork that is both dreamlike and evocative.

Corbett vs. Dempsey

Josiah McElheny: Cosmic Love
An exhibition of new works by Josiah McElheny, a diverse array of pieces that include brilliant and joyous Cosmic Sun Paintings, inspired by Sonia Delaunay; Cosmic Galaxy Paintings, black and blue with impossible inset galactic glass; the Cosmic Blue Trumpet, designed to be played by Joe McPhee; a Cosmic Love Blue Record, which can only been seen, not described; and bottles of the Cosmic Elixir, a handblown blue glass bottle filled with music that has been distilled into liquid form, a magical and elusive potion known to free one from many afflictions and to set the particles of the brain into ultra-high-speed motion. McElheny has been working on this exhibition in his secret laboratory in Brooklyn for the last year.

Gallery Cafe

Sam Lynn Art Show
Gallery Cafe will be hosting Sam Arnold as she brings us her latest exhbit of acrylic paints, watercolor and mixed media in an abstract, carbon-like style. She is currently exploring visual imagery that depicts what it is like to live with a vast number of autoimmune diseases that she has been diagnosed with and the effects those illness have on her loved ones.

Heaven Gallery

I See Cat
People
We can hardly remember a time prior to the ubiquity of cat-related memes and the oft- celebrated/oft-derided sharing of adorable pics, gifs, and vids in which these felines present an array of subjectivities we daren’t publicize about ourselves; instead, finding fuzzy avatars to display our joy, our worry, and our vulnerability. In the gathering (mis)assumption that we distract ourselves with overloads of cuteness, we in fact find ways to cope with recognized and unrecognized difficulties, dealing with trauma through meowing pratfalls, unabashed grumpiness, elegance, (c)attitude, playful destructions of language, wide-eyed obliviousness, neediness, and defiance. The artists compiled in I See Cat People acknowledge and pay homage to this grand history of imagery. They also, and perhaps more importantly, render not just images and objects, but something personal and affecting as well.

LVL3 Gallery

LtdWear3
LtdWear3, both a group exhibition and a fashion collection, gears up for summer rainstorms with custom umbrellas, raincoats, and one-of-a-kind wearables by over 25 artists, that will be available for purchase on a first-come/first-serve basis throughout the exhibition period. Check out the looks and prepare for your rainy day adventures.

Hunt and Peck: Alternative Expressions of the Keyboard

This exhibition functions as an intervention on the everydayness of keyboards by presenting them as the site of artistic innovation. Each artist featured investigates and prods the capabilities of the keyboard to transform it from a quotidian object into a expressive interactive and visual experience, a practice that video game scholar Brian Schrank refers to as “affordance mining.” These experiments challenge our expectations of what pedestrian technologies are capable of, and in doing so also challenge the rhetorics and values embedded in technology, consumer electronics, and video game development.
