Wicker Park Fest is only one week away, and all of us here at WPB SSA #33 and the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce are hard at work preparing. But that doesn't mean that the arts take a hiatus this weekend, so we've still got your WPB Weekend Arts Guide to keep you informed of all the exhibitions and happenings around the neighborhood.

Thursday night is a hopping early start to the weekend with the Art of Science Lecture: Dark Matter Demystified at Agitator Gallery from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Challengers Comics will hold their monthly Correspondence Club from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Quimby's Bookstore welcomes Slackjaw Columnist Jim Knipfel with Andy Slater at 7:00pm and Volumes Bookcafe will hold their Becoming You Panel Event from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

Friday marks the opening of four shows, Monica J. Brown: Mythical Memory/Abstract LensGranite Palombo (Amit): The Movement for the Liberation of the NarrativeDebby Spertus, and Tehilla Newman, at ARC Gallery with a reception from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Volumes Bookcafe will host Weird Journeys for Novel Writing from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

Saturday is balanced with an opening and a closing. It will be the last chance to catch Margie Criner & David Richards: Hidden Agenda at Firecat Projects before the show comes down. On the other end of things, Rainbo Club will open K. Kellogg: Volcano! with an event from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

Sunday sees the return of the Wicker Park Farmers Market with performances by This is the Hammer and Rachie Jenn Farr from 10:00am to noon. The market is open 8:00am to 2:00pm. Heaven Gallery will hold an artist talk for their current exhibition, I See Cat People, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Firefly Fiber Arts Studio also has another installation of their Arc Reactor Shawl Knit Along from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.

Other ongoing exhibitions around the neighborhood include Pictures From The Long Haul by Michael Gaylord James at AdventureLand Works on Paper; Owensby & Walsh: contemplative work of childhood trauma and transcendent experiences at Agitator Gallery; Josiah McElheny: Cosmic Love at Corbett vs. Dempsey; the Sam Lynn Art Show at Gallery Cafe; I See Cat People at Heaven Gallery; One Wall and ArtWear at Jackson Junge Gallery; LtdWear3 at LVL3 Gallery; and Hunt and Peck: Alternative Expressions of the Keyboard at VGA Gallery.
