With summer underway in Chicago street festivals and block parties are in full swing, and so are the arts in Wicker Park Bucktown! Sweat it out walking the neighborhoods taking in the newly installed public works sponsored by SSA #33 for the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, catch an opening reception while you're out, and be sure to hit up all of the ongoing exhibitions that we've got lined up for you on our WPB Weekend Arts Guide this weekend! And celebrate Pride Month while you're at it!
If you're looking for an early start to the weekend, stop by Volumes Bookcafe Thursday evening at 7:00pm for another Deep Dish- A Science Fiction and Fantasy Reading Series.
Friday night has a couple of openings of particular interest for those celebrating Pride and just about anyone who loves their Chicago imagery. Jackson Junge Gallery will hold an opening reception from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for their new show Nostalgic Perspectives by Aaron Wooten. On the Bucktown side of things, Toy de Jour will also host an opening reception for ICONS- An LGBT Group Art Show from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. And to wrap up the evening Gallery Cafe will have a Chicago Singer Songwriter Night from 8:00pm to 11:00pm.
While the forecast this weekend may call for rain, don't let keep you from stopping in at Agitator Gallery's opening reception for Andrea Kaspryk and Tracy Kostenbader from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
Sunday marks another Wicker Park Farmers Market! Shop for local, regional, and sustainable produce while tasting some of the best grub from the area. Performances by the 1099 String Quartet and Deja Vuey are scheduled from 10:00am to 2:00pm. And if things are a little damp, you'll be all set for Firefly Fiber Arts Studio's Wet Felt Flower Workshop from 2:00pm to 4:00pm!
These are far from all of the art exhibitions and happening in Wicker Park Bucktown. Be sure to also enjoy the ongoing exhibitions including Where The Years Take You by Rick Telander at AdventureLand Works on Paper; Joan d'Arcambal, Remember That You Have Not Been There, and Susan Smith Trees at ARC Gallery; Fashion, Body, and Garment at Bucktown Gallery; Josiah McElheny: Cosmic Love at Corbett vs. Dempsey; Vito Desalvo: Back and Forth at Firecat Projects; Exhausted by Joe Miller at Gallery Cafe; Monster and The Smile Behind the Mask at Heaven Gallery; Bringing Sexy Back at Jackson Junge Gallery; Moments in Between at LVL3 Gallery; Mel Cook & Molly Colleen O'Connell- Mother of the Clown at Roots & Culture with Clothilde Cook- Ascension Turns In On Itself in the Window Gallery; and Gun Ballet: The Aestheticization of Violence in Video Games at VGA Gallery.
