As we near July's boisterous celebrations of summer our WPB Weekend Arts guide sees the closing of several exhibitions and the opening of several new shows! We've also got several other happenings around the neighborhood, so get out and enjoy this very summery weekend by filling your eyeballs with the work of local aesthetes!

We kick off the weekend on Thursday evening at Agitator Gallery with their Lunar Film/Performance Series: The Blood of a Poet from 7:30pm to 10:00pm.

Friday is the neighborhood's biggest night for openings this weekend! Start out with the opening reception for Hunt and Peck: Alternative Expressions of the Keyboard at VGA Gallery from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A few blocks north on Western, Sideshow Gallery will be holding a Weekend Broom Making Workshop from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to return the following day to finish their project. On Damen, Firecat Projects will open their new show Margie Criner & David Richards: Hidden Agenda with a reception from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. South a bit on Milwaukee, Heaven Gallery will have an opening reception for their must-see new exhibition I See Cat People, from 7:00pm to 11:00pm! Next door the No Nation Art Gallery and Tangential Unspace Lab will be hosting the World's Fair 2018 - Lethal Poetry Grand Slam & Last Chance Slam from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. If you're feeling inclined to help out your fellow human beings, hit up Volumes Bookcafe for their event Rectify: Fundraiser and Open Mic from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Proceeds from the event go to The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights.

On the flip side, Saturday presents the last chance to see many of June's exhibitions. Where The Years Take You by Rick Telander at AdventureLand Works on Paper, Exhausted by Joe Miller at Gallery Cafe, and ICONS: An LGBT Group Art Show at Toy de Jour, all come to a close by the end of the day. Firefly Fiber Arts Studio will host a Natural Dye Workshop from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Sunday is market day! The Wicker Park Farmers Market is open from 8:00am to 2:00pm with makeshift bluegrass performances by B Forrest from 10:00am to noon. Firefly Fiber Arts Studio will host their Arc Reactor Shawl Knit Along at 5:00pm. Moments in Between at LVL3 Gallery closes Sunday.

Ongoing exhibitions around the neighborhood include Andrea Kaspryk: Carrying Burdens and Tracy Kostenbader: Eating Words at Agitator Gallery; Pride and Prejudice: Gender Realities in the 21st Century at ARC Gallery; Josiah McElheny: Cosmic Love at Corbett vs. Dempsey; Bringing Sexy Back and Nostalgic Perspectives by Aaron Wooten at Jackson Junge Gallery; and Ben Foch & Jesue Pellot at Rainbo Club.
