With June in full swing, its a great time for artwork in Wicker Park and Bucktown! The five sculptures sponsored by SSA #33 for the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit are installed and work on One Big Thing has begun! But with the heat frying our sidewalks this weekend, there's still plenty going on in the climate control of our neighborhood galleries, so stay cool and check out the shows!
Thursday offers up two events to start your weekend off. Volumes Bookcafe will hold their June Book Club Discussion from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Young Chicago Authors will host their monthly installment of Queeriosity from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Friday is a great night to grab a drink at Rainbo Club and catch the closing night of The Serpent and the Madman: Work by Will McEvilly and Christian Campos.
It's expected to be a warm day on Saturday, so if you're not out at the lake, swing by Jackson Junge Gallery for their Artisan Day Craft Show, Solstice Inspirations, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. ARC Gallery's trio of shows, Joan D'Arcambal, Remember That You Have Not Been There, and Susan Smith Trees, all come to a close on Saturday. Also closing are Mel Cook & Molly Colleen O'Connell- Mother of the Clown at Roots & Culture with Clothilde Cook- Ascension Turns In On Itself in the Window Gallery. Rainbo Club opens a new show with work by Ben Foch and Josue Pellot with a reception from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
Sunday continues the neighborhood market season, so be sure to stop in at the Wicker Park Farmers Market and the CREATE series from 8:00pm to 2:00pm. After the market, FireFly Fiber Arts Studio will have their Intro to Tunisian Crochet Workshop from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
These's still so much more to see in the neighborhood arts! So be sure to catch the numerous ongoing exhibitions including Where The Years Take You by Rick Telander at AdventureLand Works on Paper; Andrea Kaspryk and Tracy Kostenbader at Agitator Gallery; Fashion, Body, and Garment at Bucktown Gallery; Josiah McElheny: Cosmic Love at Corbett vs. Dempsey; Vito Desalvo: Back and Forth at Firecat Projects; Exhausted by Joe Miller at Gallery Cafe; Monster and The Smile Behind the Mask at Heaven Gallery; Bringing Sexy Back and Nostalgic Perspectives by Aaron Wooten at Jackson Junge Gallery; Moments in Between at LVL3 Gallery; ICONS- An LGBT Group Art Show at Toy de Jour; and Gun Ballet: The Aestheticization of Violence in Video Games at VGA Gallery.
