Weekend Arts Guide (4/6-4/8 2018)
Heads up! It’s another Wicker Park Bucktown Weekend Arts Guide! With the weekend bookended by spring snow showers, be sure to stay warm and dry inside one of the neighborhoods’ galleries and make the best of that time between snows to catch some artwork. It’s also the first weekend of the month, so it’s a busy one with the return of First Fridays!
Start your weekend out with your close-knit friends at FireFly Fiber Arts Studio’s Worker Bee Bag Read Along Crochet Along from 4:00pm to 8:00pm every Friday in April. This Friday night Jackson Junge Gallery is hosting an opening reception for Irena Saparnis’ Possibility of Flying from 6:00pm to 9:00pm with light refreshments. Also of special note, the evening sees the return of Flat Iron Arts’ First Fridays with happenings across both the Flat Iron Arts Building and the Robey Hotel! The Flat Iron will have open studios, work on display, and music from 6:00pm to 10:00pm while The Hall at the Robey will keep the party going from 7:00pm to 11:00pm with more work on display, music, and a workshop by Plus Sign from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. On the other side of the neighborhoods AdventureLand Works on Paper opens The Grouch And The Brainstorm by Philip Campbell with a reception from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
Spend your Saturday recovering from an eventful Friday, but be sure to stop by Roots & Culture for the final chance to see Cathy Hsiao & Kaveri Raina: To Hover with Magritte Nankin's Time is Her Name in the window, as the exhibition comes to a close.
Sunday will be the last opportunity to see Buck Naked: A Celebration of Form, Function, and Beauty at Bucktown Gallery with a closing reception from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, making for a great way to spend a possibly snowy spring evening!
The weekend’s ongoing exhibitions include Cornered, Fission Fusion, and Night Brings Day/Day Brings Night at Heaven Gallery; Systems at Play at LVL3; RED at Jackson Junge Gallery; Margot Bergman: Thank you for having me and Christina Forrer at Corbett vs. Dempsey; and nitty gritty: Northern Illinois University’s MFA Thesis Exhibition at ARC Gallery.
