The final Arts Guide of April is here! And to add to the excitement, Saturday is Independent Bookstore Day! So in addition to plenty of art and the usual slew of openings and closings, this weekend is packed full of literary fun, book signings, and readings.
Thursday night kicks off our WPB Weekend Arts Guide with a closing reception for Music/Moments/Muses: The Work of Timothy Hiatt at Bucktown Gallery from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Volumes Bookcafe will host In Conversation: Rodrigo Fresan with Rachel Cordasco from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Friday may be rainy, but that doesn't mean that there's not plenty of artwork to see! FireFly Fiber Arts Studio will have their final week of Worker Bee Bag Read Along Crochet Along from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. ARC Gallery has a triple opening from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for Joseph Bigley, Yu Ling Huang, and Al-Qawi Tazal Nanavati. On the south end of the neighborhood Corbett vs. Dempsey will have an opening reception from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for Brian Calvin: Passing on and Barbara Rossi: Slippers. Wrap up the evening at Volumes Bookcafe with Sebastian Rotella - RIP CREW from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Saturday is when we get busy! Monique Meloche Gallery has a closing reception from 1:00pm to 3:00pm for Sheree Hovsepian: The Altogether and Jessica Vaughn: Paperwork. AdventureLand Works on Paper also closes their show The Grouch And The Brainstorm by Philip Campbell. Saturday is particularly exciting as it is Independent Bookstore Day! Begin the literary escapades at Volumes Bookcafe as they have Special Storytime with Becky Cattie from 10:00am to 10:30am. Quimby's Bookstore will have specials for the #MyChicagoBookstore Crawl starting at 11:00am. Challengers Comics will host a Michael Moreci Wasted Space Signing from noon to 1:00pm. Secret Agent Supply has Secret Chicago with Jessica Mlinaric from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. And to end the night Myopic Books will put on Poetry Reading: Jodie Hollander & Special Guest at 7:00pm.
Sunday sees two more exhibitions come to a close for the end of the month. Catch Irena Saparnis: Possibility of Flying before it closes at Jackson Junge Gallery. Then head up Milwaukee a couple of blocks to Heaven Gallery for the last chance to see Cornered, Fission Fusion, and Night Brings Day/Day Brings Night, complete with an Artist Talk from Leslie Baum at 1:00pm. While there, pop next door to LVL3 to see their ongoing show Systems at Play.
Other ongoing exhibitions throughout the neighborhoods this weekend include RED at Jackson Junge Gallery, Dan Miller & Aaron Walker - Handkerchiefs and Flowers at Roots & Culture with Carolina Poceda - Whispering into the Shell in the Window Gallery, Beth Adler & Nancy Gardner: What I've Learned From Flower Arranging at FireCat Projets, and Godzilla vs ______? at Toy de Jour.
