The cold spell has broken and the snows have passed! That means its time to shed one or two of those winter layers and get out and stretch those legs! What better way to celebrate spring than to take in all of the art our neighborhoods have to offer? 

Once again we start our WPB Weekend Arts Guide off a little early with a Thursday night event at Quimby's Bookstore. Esther K. Smith and Dikko Faust will show and tell Specimens of Chromatic Wood Type, Borders, &c.: The 1874 Masterpiece of Colorful Typography and Purgatory Pie Press starting at 7:00pm.

Friday may be a day for a certain celebration and we see no better way to enjoy yourself or to start off your weekend and make the best of the evening than to enjoy some artwork! FireFly Fiber Arts Studio continues their weekly Worker Bee Bag Read Along Crochet Along from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The final event will wrap next weekend. Firecat Projects' new exhibition, Beth Adler & Nancy Gardern: What I've Learned From Flower Arranging, opens with a reception from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. With Earth Day on Sunday, this show is a great one to see this weekend!

Saturday's big news is of course Record Store Day! While you're out record shopping, swing by Corbett vs. Dempsey for some of their curated records and the closing day of Margot Bergman: Thank you for having me and Christina Forrer. Across the neighborhood, nitty-gritty: Northern Illinois University's MFA Thesis Exhibition also comes to a close at ARC Gallery. Be sure you catch a peek of these artists and their work as they transition out of academia and into their artistic careers. For Saturday night programming, No Nation Art Gallery and Tangential Unspace Lab presents Creatures of the Night (Shape) Shifters from 7:30pm to 11:30pm with performances scheduled from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Roots & Culture will also have their Spring Gala: Green Party offsite from 6:30pm to midnight. The event is a fundraiser and ticket purchase is required. 

Sunday is Earth Day! None of the neighborhood galleries are opening or closing shows and there are no special events scheduled, so get out and enjoy a little nature or walk about and take in the murals and public artwork around the area! LVL3's open hours are on Sunday, so stop in while you're enjoying our pale blue dot.
